I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we are reading, and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts, and our minds to you Lord. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. Lord, I can't thank you enough for every single thing that you've done and continue to do. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Luke Chapter 19 Part 2:

28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it.’ ”

32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”

35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

So Jesus sent 2 of his disciples to get a colt for him to ride on to fulfill the scripture in Zechariah 9:9. I'm just going to put that verse here real quick: "Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey. on a colt, the foal of a donkey." In verse 38, what they said here was a scripture from Psalm 118:26. In verses 39-40, whenever the Pharisees tried to get Jesus to rebuke his disciples, there was no silencing the praise of the king. Even if Jesus was to have his disciples be quiet, even the stones would cry out because it was inevitable to praise the king of all kings. The Messiah was there and the time had come for him to save the world and there was no way to silence the praise of the king of all kings, the Messiah, the Savior of the world.

In verses 41-42, Jesus' tears were for the fate of Jerusalem. Jerusalem's leaders rejected Jesus and a lot of the people followed these religious leaders. If they had truly known Jesus, the Messiah, the Savior of the world, then they could've avoided the destruction that was to come. Jesus was the only one that could bring them peace and they avoided him, rejected him, and didn't believe in him, so there was destruction to come. In verses 43-44, Jesus was talking about the Roman attack on Jerusalem. These people didn't recognize the time of the Messiah and that if they just believed in Jesus and repented, then they would be saved.

45 Then he entered the temple area and began driving out those who were selling. 46 “It is written,” he said to them, “ ‘My house will be a house of prayer’; but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’ ”

47 Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. 48 Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.

Alright, so those are all of the verses of part 2 of chapter 19 of the book of Luke, but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. In verse 45, Jesus was full of righteous anger because these people were selling in the temple area and which was the house of God for prayer. In verse 46, the verses that he says here are from Isaiah 56:7 and also Jeremiah 7:11. In verses 47-48, these chief priests, teachers of the law, and leaders had hate in their hearts and they wanted Jesus dead, but the time hadn't come yet for his crucifixion, and people were listening to Jesus, learning from him, and his work wasn't done yet so they couldn't kill him.

Here are 3 takeaways to write down:

1. Nothing or no one can silence praise to the king of all kings

2. Jesus had compassion for the people of Jerusalem

3. No one could kill Jesus until the time for his crucifixion came

Luke Ch 19 Part 2 Study Guide

  2. In verse 40, why did Jesus say this?

  3. Why did Jesus weep over Jerusalem?

  4. In verse 45, why did Jesus have righteous anger?

  5. What is your biggest takeaway from this Bible study?

So that concludes this Bible study on part 2 of chapter 19 of the Book of Luke. Tomorrow we're going to go into chapter 20, so make sure you stay tuned for that.
