The Prayer of Intercession. Part 7 of the 8 Different Types of Prayers

ree

In today's episode we will be going into the prayer of intercession. So this is the 7th type of prayer that we've gone over in our 8 part series. If you haven't checked out my last 7 episodes, make sure you check those out. The first one was an introduction on prayer. I went over when to pray and all of the good things about prayer. The second week we went into the prayer of faith. The third week we went into the prayer of consecration. The forth week we went into the prayer of agreement. The fifth week we went into the prayer of binding and loosing. The sixth week we went into the prayer of casting cares. Last week we went into the prayer of praise and worship. So today we're going to be going all into the prayer of intercession. I'm going to get into the definition of it and I'm going to pair it with scripture.

First, I want to say a quick prayer: "LORD, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. I pray that you open up our ears, hearts, and minds to you. Holy Spirit consume me, move me to do the will of God the Father. Work through me to make an impact in other people's lives. Give me the words to speak. Help me remove myself from this message. Speak through me, Holy Spirit. Thank you for everything that you do, everything that you have done, and everything that you will continue to do. LORD. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this episode, that they receive it and they implement in in their daily lives. I love You with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen."

What is the prayer of intercession?

According to Google, the prayer of intercession: "A heartfelt plea made to God on behalf of others, asking for his help, healing, guidance, or blessings for individuals, communities, or the world acting as a mediator or standing in the gap for those in need."

So in this prayer of intercession, we are praying for other people, on behalf of other people. This is a prayer that is going to need to be repeated over and over and over again. Just like the prayer last week of casting cares, this intercession prayer is one that will be prayed over and over for other people. With this prayer, you can literally pray for anyone. Pray for churches, pray for revival, pray for the government, pray for communities; whatever is on your heart to pray and intercede for other people, that is what you'll want to pray for.

Let's get into some scripture:

"First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."

-1 Timothy 2:1

"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect." -James 5:16

NOW I WANT TO GET INTO SOME EXAMPLES OF INTERCESSION FROM THE BIBLE:

"But Moses sought the favor of the Lord his God: “Lord, why does your anger burn against your people you brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a strong hand? Why should the Egyptians say, 'He brought them out with an evil intent to kill them in the mountains and eliminate them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger and relent concerning this disaster planned for your people. Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel—you swore to them by yourself and declared, ‘I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and will give your offspring all this land that I have promised, and they will inherit it forever.’' So the Lord relented concerning the disaster he had said he would bring on his people." -Exodus 32:11-14

"So I turned my attention to the Lord God to seek him by prayer and petitions, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes." -Daniel 9:3

So in this prayer of intercession, it is a plea to God for other people. So when you're praying this prayer of intercession, whatever's on your heart to pray for someone else or a group of people, just pray that out to the LORD and plea to him for those people. The Lord will listen to your cries and He will answer you. If you don't know what to pray, if you don't even know exactly what it is, maybe you just have this heaviness in your heart for someone or a group of people and you really want to pray for them but you don't even know where to start, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and to have compassion and open up your heart to those people. Then whatever it is that the Holy Spirit is telling you, just pray to the LORD for those people.

God is so full of compassion, mercy, and grace, and He hears the cries and the pleas of righteous people. The prayers of righteous people are so powerful and the LORD's heart is to have mercy and compassion on us. So when other people are just really struggling, when other people are going through some things or maybe they're just so completely lost, we can pray for them, intercede for them, and the LORD will hear our prayers and He will help them.

Okay, I'm going to interrupt this episode just for a minute because I just want to say that I am so grateful for you guys. I am just blown away by your generosity and how much love and support I have from you guys is so incredible. I can't thank you guys enough for everything. Because of the generosity of a few of you guys, I have been able to completely surpass the first deadline for my mission projects.

So if you don't know, I'm going to Brazil, Paraguay, Thailand and Albania next year. We are going to be going to schools, markets, streets, and neighborhoods spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. We're going to do community projects, service projects, and just have one-on-one personal conversations with people spreading the gospel. Also we will be having crusades at night where thousands of people are going to get to hear the true simple gospel and be able to be saved and healed by Jesus Christ.

Our first deadline was November 1st. I had to get the $300 deposit for all of my trips. So it was a total of $900 that I needed to raise, and we completely surpassed that before the deadline. I just want to thank you guys so much for that. So now our next goal is 65% of the funds, and it's due by January 31st. So as I'm making this video today, we have raised $2,410 and I still need $4,853.75. That number may seem like a lot. I know it seems like a lot to me, but if just 40 people were to give $122 one time or $61 per month, I would be able to reach that goal by January 31st.

So here are some ways that you can partner with me in this:

  1. Pray

    - Prayer is a vital part of our life, and it's so important for me to have as many prayer warriors as I possibly can while I'm going on these different mission projects and doing all these different things around the world. But also just having ministry here in Oklahoma and going to the School of Missions, I need prayer warriors by my side.

    - So please pray for me and also let me know how I can pray for you. This is a partnership and I want to pray for you as well. There may be specific needs that you have in your life or specific things that you need prayers for. Let me know so I can partner with you in prayer.

  2. Give financially

    - Whatever that looks like for you, just pray and ask the Lord to open up your heart to know exactly what you should do. Is it should you just be praying for me, which is amazing, or is the Lord prompting you to give financially?

    - Whatever number that looks like that's between you and the Lord. With going on these different mission projects and traveling around the world spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, that takes funds. This is not funds that I just readily have that I can fund myself for all of these projects.

    - So however you feel led by the Lord to partner with me, I just want to say in advance, thank you so much for your support, your love, and just being here reading these blogs.

    - If you do want to give financially, you can go to https://give.globalventures.tv/ and type in my name (Lorena Espy) in the search bar. Then click on "donate on Pushpay," and then you'll go fill out the form and make sure in the memo line that you put my name.

    - So again, I just want to thank you guys so much. You guys are awesome. I love you guys, and I just cannot wait to see what all God has in store with these mission projects. It's just so incredible to see how God is already moving with the ministry that I'm doing here with the school and I know He's going to continue to move in such a big way. I'm just so grateful that I get to partner with you guys in this and I can't wait to partner with more of you guys throughout this journey.

Okay now let's get back into the prayer of intercession..

HERE ARE 3 SCRIPTURAL WAYS TO PRAY FOR THE LOST:

  1. Bind the devil from blinding their minds to the truth of the gospel

"But if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case, the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we are not proclaiming ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’s sake. For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ." -2 Corinthians 4:3-6

Whenever we are binding the devil from blinding the minds of these people to be able to hear the gospel and to be able to know the truth of the gospel, we have to pray this prayer repeatedly.

2. Pray for laborers to reach them

"He told them, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest." -Luke 10:2

So you may be that person to go and reach the lost, but there could be some people in your life that are lost and you've tried reaching them and it's just not getting through. Pray to the LORD to send out workers that will reach them

  1. Pray that their hearts will be prepared

So whenever the laborer gets there, they will be able to receive it.

Alright, so that really sums up the prayer of intercession. With the prayer of intercession there are no limits. You can literally pray for anything, for anyone. Of course you want it to be according to God's will. Anything that we pray for should be according to God's will if you want it answered. Also our heart should just be to do the will of God anyway. So whenever we are praying that prayer of intercession, you want to constantly pray for other people, don't give up. Be persistent in your prayers. God hears you, He will listen to you, and He will answer your prayers, but in His perfect timing. His timing is not our timing. His thoughts are not our thoughts. His ways are higher than our ways. He will have compassion, He will have mercy, and He will listen in His perfect timing. So don't give up on praying for other people. Pray for the lost, pray for your family, pray for your friends. Pray for communities and groups of people that you really have heart and compassion for and just intercede for those people and your prayers are not going to go unanswered. So that is it for today's episode. Make sure you stay tuned for next week because we're going to be going into our last prayer, which is the prayer of travail. So I will see you guys next week.

I love you guys so much.
