First I want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we are reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. Please open up our ears, our eyes, our hearts, and our minds to you Lord. Holy Spirit please guide us and help us to see the truth, know the truth, discern the truth, and live by the truth. Lord, I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and they implement it in their daily life. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Luke Chapter 12 Part 1:

1 Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 3 What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.

4 “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

8 “I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. 9 But whoever disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. 10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

11 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

Alright, so I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. In verses 1-3, Jesus was telling his disciples to watch out for the practices of the Pharisees because they were hypocrites and all would be revealed. God knows everything so you can't hide anything from him. These things that the Pharisees, the teachers of the law, and everyone that was trying to do things and hide them would be revealed whenever the time came. In verses 4-5, he's telling them not to fear men but to fear God. Men would persecute them, which we see in the book of Acts where the church is persecuted and scattered. God has the ultimate power over death and life.

In verses 6-7, God will never forget us and as believers of Jesus Christ, our lives are precious to Him. God loves us unconditionally and He values us. He just wants us to love Him unconditionally as He loves us. He loves us so much that He gave his only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to forgive us of our sins. Whoever believes in Jesus shall not perish but have eternal life in heaven.

In verses 8-9, when we stay faithful and obedient and acknowledge Jesus Christ, then he will acknowledge us before the throne of God. If we deny Jesus, then he will deny us before God when the time comes when he comes back for his people. In verse 10 where it says "speaks a word against the Son of Man,' whenever someone speaks against Jesus this could be a moment of weakness and that could be forgiven if the person asks for forgiveness. If you blaspheme against the Holy Spirit then that is someone rejecting God's truth and that won't be forgiven. In verses 11-12, when we let the Holy Spirit guide us, he will show us the truth and we will never be steered in the wrong direction. So he's telling his disciples not to worry about what they are going to say or how they are going to defend themselves when they are brought before the synagogues, rulers, and authorities because the Holy Spirit will tell them what to say. We just have to let the Holy Spirit guide us and show us the truth and then speak that truth that the Holy Spirit gives us.

13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”

14 Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” 15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

16 And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’

18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

21 “This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.”

In verses 13-15, this man desired the inheritance that his brother was receiving and he wanted Jesus to tell his brother to split it with him. What Jesus says in verse 15, this world is our temporary home and the most important thing is being saved by Jesus Christ and having a relationship with him. We shouldn't worry about having a lot of money or materialistic things. In verses 16-21, this rich fool was so worried about having an abundance of things instead of loving God and having a relationship with Him. Whenever it's our time to go we won't be able to take our things with us, so there so is no point in trying to have more abundance of materialistic things and more money. We should be seeking the kingdom of God and focus on praying to God, having a relationship with Him, following Jesus, obeying His commands, and seeking to live and have a heart like Jesus.

22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27 “Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

This is a teaching of Jesus Christ and it is something that we all need to remember and live by. Our heavenly Father created us, he cares for us and loves us. We can not get so caught up in worrying about what we're going to eat, drink, the clothes that we have, or materialistic things. God feeds the birds and He clothes the lilies. We as humans, which are worth way more than birds and flowers, stress over what we're going to eat and what we're going to wear instead of thinking about the important things. The important things are entering the kingdom of heaven, having a relationship with Christ, spreading the gospel, and letting other people know about Jesus so that they may be saved and go to heaven also. Just like it says in verses 30-31 that I just read here, the pagans run after all of these things and our heavenly father knows that we need them but we have to first seek his kingdom and then everything else will be given to us.

So instead of us stressing ourselves out about what we're going to eat or materialistic things, the most important thing for us to do is seek the Lord, pray to him, have a relationship with him, rest in him, and everything will be given to us. If you have just been so tired, stressed out, exhausted, and just worrying about every little thing, I just want you to stop and think for a moment about the important things in life. We can't worry about what's going to happen tomorrow. We have to let tomorrow worry about itself, but all we can do is seek the kingdom of God, have that close relationship with Christ, and spread the gospel so that whoever we come across may know about Jesus and be saved and have eternal life.

32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Alright, so these are all the verses that I'm going to read in part 1 of Chapter 12 of the book of Luke, but I'm going to discuss all of these verses with you guys here. What Jesus says in verse 32 when he says "little flock," Jesus is the good shepherd and we are his sheep. So we are his flock of sheep and he is our shepherd that protects us, cares for us, and leads us. So in these verses here, when we are believers in Jesus Christ then we have eternal life and we will go to heaven when it's our time to go. We have to serve and love others, give generously, and not worry about materialistic possessions but give to the people that are less fortunate than us, look towards heavenly things, treasure our relationship with God, and seek the kingdom of heaven. We have to treasure following Jesus and seeking to live and have a heart like him and not worry about materialistic things or having money and not treasure those things but treasure having a relationship with Christ and seeking the kingdom of God.

Here are 3 takeaways to write down:

1. God knows everything

2. God values us as believers of Jesus Christ

3. We can't worry about money or materialistic things
