We Are All Created in God's Image & Whose Son is Jesus Christ? Bible Study. Luke Ch 20 Pt 2

I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts, and our minds to you Lord. Holy Spirit please guide us and help us to see the truth, know the truth, discern the truth, and live by the truth. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. Lord, I can't thank you enough for every single thing that you've done and continue to do. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Luke Chapter 20 Part 2:

20 Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be honest. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor. 21 So the spies questioned him: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. 22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them, 24 “Show me a denarius. Whose potrait and inscription are on it?”

“Caesar’s,” they replied.

25 He said to them, “Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.

These religious leaders were trying to catch Jesus in something he might say, so they sent spies to question him and to ask him if they should pay taxes to Caesar. What Jesus says in verse 25, we are all made in God's image and we all belong to God. We don't belong to Caesar or anyone else, we all belong to God. So they should pay taxes to Caesar because his portrait and inscription are on the denarius, but we are all God's people and so we should all give ourselves humbly to God, humble ourselves under his mighty hand, love him with all of our heart and soul, and spread the gospel of Jesus in hopes that others may be saved by Jesus and have eternal life in heaven. In verse 26, they became silent because they couldn't trap him and they were astonished by what Jesus had just said.

27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question. 28 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother. 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless. 30 The second 31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children. 32 Finally, the woman died too. 33 Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”

34 Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, 36 and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection. 37 But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ 38 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”

39 Some of the teachers of the law responded, “Well said, teacher!” 40 And no one dared to ask him any more questions.

In verses 27-33, these Sadducees that didn't even believe in resurrection were asking Jesus this question about the resurrection. In verses 34-38, people of this world will marry and are given in marriage, but people that believe in Jesus Christ, are saved, have the Holy Spirit within them, and have eternal life can no longer die. We have eternal life in heaven with Jesus and God the Father and we are God's children. Life in the resurrection is completely different than life on earth. and the order is completely different, so he says here that they won't be married or given in marriage. Things aren't the same in the resurrection, they aren't the same in heaven as they are on earth. In verse 37 Jesus proves the resurrection from scripture. The scripture that he says here is from Exodus 3:6. All who believe in Jesus Christ, when it's their time to go, they go to heaven with Jesus and God the Father.

41 Then Jesus said to them, “How is it that they say the Christ is the son of David? 42 David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:

“ ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 43 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” ’

44 David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”

45 While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, 46 “Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 47 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”

Alright, so those are all of the verses of part 2 of chapter 20 of the book of Luke, but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. So we know based on scripture that Jesus is a descendant of David because Jesus's earthly father, Joseph was a descendant of David. But Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The scripture that Jesus says in verses 42-43 is from Psalm 110:1. David knew that Jesus Christ was the Lord and that he would sit at the right hand of God the Father. A lot of people were saying that Jesus was the son of David, therefore making David greater than Jesus, but Jesus is the King above all kings, he is the Messiah, he is the Savior of the world, and he is God the Son.

In verses 46-47, Jesus was telling his disciples to beware of the teachers of the law. They were full of pride, and greed, wanted everyone to honor them and praise them, and they wanted everyone to think so highly of them. They said all of these lengthy prayers and they wanted everyone to think that they were so spiritual but their hearts were full of hate and wickedness, and they didn't truly know God or believe in God because they didn't believe in Jesus Christ. They wanted Jesus killed, and people like the teachers of the law would be punished most severely whenever the time came.

Here are 3 takeaways to write down:

1. God created all of us and we all belong to Him

2. Those who are saved have eternal life in heaven with Jesus and God the Father

3. Jesus is God the Son, he is the Lord of all lords, and the King above all kings
