I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we're reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our minds, and our hearts to you Lord. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Luke Chapter 17 Part 1:

1 Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. 2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. 3 So watch yourselves.

“If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times come back to you and says ‘I repent,’ forgive them.”

5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”

6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.

7 “Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? 8 Would he not rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? 9 Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’ ”

Alright, so I'm going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. In verses 1-4, we can't do things to cause someone else to sin. We have to follow Jesus, obey his commands, and seek to live and have a heart like Jesus. We have to discern the truth of God's words and spread that truth to others. When someone is doing wrong and when they sin we have to let them know, but we always have to forgive them when they ask for our forgiveness (just like Jesus forgives us whenever we come to Him, we repent, and ask for forgiveness).

In verses 5-6, we shouldn't worry about how much faith we have but what kind of faith we have. We have to have faith in God and trust in him completely. We can't try to fix things on our own, do things on our own, or think that if we just have this then everything will be okay and we can save ourselves. We have to just have faith in God, stay faithful and obedient to him, and follow Jesus and his commands. In verses 7-10, we are servants of God, we don't deserve anything, but he gives us everything that we need. We have to humble ourselves and do what the Lord commands us to do without expecting anything in return.

11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”

14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.

15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

Alright, so those are all of the verses of part 1 of chapter 17 of the book of Luke, but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. So Jesus told these men who were filled with leprosy to walk in faith and present themselves before the priests before they were healed. On their way to the priests, they were healed. Only one of them came back to give praise to God and to give thanks to Jesus Christ and that man was a Samaritan. What Jesus says in verse 17, Jesus notices when we don't show gratitude to him. In verse 18, the only one that came back and showed gratitude to Jesus and praised God was not even a Jew he was a foreigner, he was a Samaritan and as we've seen in previous Bible studies, Jews and Samaritans usually didn't even associate with each other.

In verse 19, there was additional healing for this Samaritan man and this was the healing of his heart. The others were healed of leprosy and they had clean bodies but their hearts weren't healed. They still had sick hearts because they didn't come express gratitude and praise God for Jesus Christ healing them.

Here are 3 takeaways to write down:

1. We have to let others know when they do something wrong

- We can't just sit idly by and let other people do things that we know are not right and not ever let them know of the things they are doing wrong, because that is just as bad as us sinning ourselves if we're not helping someone that we know is in the wrong try to make things right, repent, and acknowledge their guilt.

- So we have to always let other people know the right things to do and when we see them doing something wrong we have to tell them the truth and let them know that what they are doing is wrong.

- We don't have to do this in a mean or hateful way, but in a loving way because we don't want anyone that we know or come across to go to hell when it's their time to go.

2. We have to forgive those who sin against us

3. We have to show gratitude to Jesus

Luke Ch 17 Part 1 Study Guide

  1. Should we let someone know if they are doing something wrong? Why or why not?

  2. Should we forgive those who sin against us? Why or why not?

  3. What should we expect from God when we do what he has commanded of us?

  4. What additional healing did the Samaritan leper get from Jesus?

  5. What is your biggest takeaway from this Bible study?

So that concludes this Bible study on part 1 of chapter 17 of the Book of Luke. Tomorrow we're going to go into part 2, so make sure you stay tuned for that.

I love you guys so much.
