I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our minds, and our hearts to you Lord. Holy Spirit please guide us and help us to see the truth, know the truth, discern the truth, and live by the truth. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. Lord, I can't thank you enough for every single thing that you've done and continue to do. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Luke Chapter 17 Part 2:

20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”

22 Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. 23 Men will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them. 24 For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

28 “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

30 “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. 32 Remember Lot’s wife! 33 Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.”

37 "Where, Lord?" they asked.

He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."

Alright, so those are all of the verses of part 2 of chapter 17 of the book of Luke, but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. What Jesus said here in verse 20, the kingdom of God wouldn't be found through the hostile examining or observation of Jesus. These Pharisees doubted Jesus and they were unable to see or receive the kingdom of God. In verse 21 whenever he says, "the kingdom of God is within you," it also says here at the bottom "among you." So the kingdom of God was among them because the king, Jesus Christ, was among them, he was right there with them. The Pharisees couldn't see this because they were so full of hate, evil, and corruption, and they couldn't see what was right in front of them which was the King above all kings, Jesus Christ. In verse 22, what Jesus is talking about here is when he ascends back to heaven and he is no longer with them.

In verses 23-25, many will claim to be the Messiah and they will come before Jesus returns. We, as Jesus' disciples, have to disregard them and we just have to follow Jesus, stand firm in our faith, and discern the truth. That's why it's so important for us to pray, study the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ, follow Jesus, let the Holy Spirit guide us, and seek to live and have a heart like Jesus. So we won't be deceived by false prophets and people that claim to be the Messiah. In verse 25, Jesus suffered; he was beaten, ridiculed, and crucified to forgive us of our sins.

In verses 26-29, when Jesus Christ comes back for his people there will be people that are living happily in sin and wickedness and not having a care in the world, like the sinful and corrupt people before Noah's ark and before Lot left Sodom. If you want to read about the flood, Noah's ark, and all of that it's in Genesis chapter 6. Then where Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed is in Genesis chapter 19, so if you want to go and read both of those chapters of Genesis you'll be able to see about the flood and Sodom and Gomorrah being destroyed.

In verses 30-31, in the time when Jesus comes back for his people we can't look back, try to save the things that we have, or save our life. We have to be ready for Jesus and look toward him. What Jesus says in verse 32, Genesis 19:26 shows that Lot's wife looked back, so that's what he's saying here. We can't look back we have to look toward Jesus and be prepared and ready for when he comes back for his people. In verse 33, we are dead in our sins and alive in Jesus. This world is our temporary home, our true home is in heaven with Jesus and God the Father. We have eternal life in heaven whenever we are saved, and we are dead in our sins and alive in Jesus. In verses 34-35, Jesus will come suddenly, unexpectedly, and we have to be ready like we went over in our Bible study in part 2 of chapter 12 of the book of Luke.

Here are 3 takeaways to write down:

1. The Pharisees were unable to see that the king was among them

2. We have to stand firm in our faith and not follow the world or worldly people

3. Jesus gives us eternal life in heaven whenever we are saved by him

Luke Ch 17 Part 2 Study Guide

  1. Why were the Pharisees unable to see that the kingdom of God was among them?

  2. In verse 25, who suffered and how?

  3. Why should we not look back when Jesus comes back for his people?

  4. Why is it important to always be ready for Jesus’s return?

  5. What is your biggest takeaway from this Bible study?

So that concludes this Bible study on part 2 of chapter 17 of the Book of Luke. Tomorrow we're going to go into chapter 18, so make sure you stay tuned for that.

I love you guys so much.
