I did want to say a quick prayer... LORD, I pray that You lift up every person reading this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts, and our minds to You LORD. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we are reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. Holy Spirit please guide us and help us to see the truth, know the truth, discern the truth, and live by the truth. LORD, I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love You with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

1 Corinthians Chapter 2:

1 When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God’s power.

Alright, so I am going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. So if you kept up with our Bible studies from the book of Acts then you know about Paul (formerly known as Saul) and how he was on a mission to imprison Christians. In chapter 9 in the book of Acts (which I discussed in our Bible study from last week,) we saw the conversion of Saul, how he was blind, and then he went to the house of Judas like Jesus had told him and Ananias came to Saul and put his hands on him and told him that Jesus had sent him so that he may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit. So after Paul (formerly known as Saul) was able to see again and was filled with the Holy Spirit then he got up and was baptized. After all of this Paul started preaching in the synagogues about Jesus Christ. Paul only spoke what the Holy Spirit told him and from the revelation that he had with Jesus Christ coming to him in Damascus and him being blind, being able to see again, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and all of that. Saul was a well-known man before the conversion and he was there giving approval to people's deaths that had been speaking about Jesus Christ and had been spreading the gospel. Paul was a very influential person, but then when that happened with Jesus Christ coming to him and choosing him as his instrument to carry his name to the Gentiles and to the people of Israel, all of that influence and everything went out the window. Paul just let the Holy Spirit guide him and was speaking of things that had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit and that is what Paul is saying here in verses 1-5. He didn't come to them with this superior wisdom or anything like that, he just let the Holy Spirit guide him and he preached about the gospel of Jesus and that he died on the cross for our sins.

We can see in chapter 28 of the book of Acts where Paul was in Corinth and how he devoted himself to preaching and testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ. The Jews opposed him in Corinth and were abusive to him but he shook out his clothes in protest. Before Paul had gone to Corinth he had gone to many other places and was testifying about Jesus Christ and spreading the gospel of Jesus. Paul had been opposed by many people there and was imprisoned with Silas. He didn't come to these people in Corinth with power, might, and all of that, but with weakness and fear. He didn't speak to them with persuasive words and tell them all of these things with his knowledge and wisdom, but he was guided by the Holy Spirit and the things that he spoke to them were with the demonstration of the Spirit's power. Whatever the Holy Spirit told him to say is what Paul said to these people. We have to have faith in God and our faith shouldn't rest on the wisdom of others, how much someone knows, the things they can tell us, the things they can prove, miraculous signs, and all of that. We have to have faith in God the Father, in Jesus Christ, and in the power of God.

6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written:

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"—

10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment:

16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ.

Alright, those are all of the verses of chapter 2 of the book of 1 Corinthians, but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. In verses 6-7, we can see all about wisdom in the book of Proverbs and the only way that we can receive wisdom is from God. We can receive wisdom from praying and asking God to give us wisdom and from letting the Holy Spirit guide us. When we are saved we have the Holy Spirit within us and if we let the Holy Spirit guide us and help us to discern the truth, pray, study the Bible, and do all of the things that we can to gain that wisdom, then we will receive this wisdom from the Holy Spirit and God the Father. It's not wisdom from men, because the people that think they are wise are actually foolish because they don't even believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and He's the only way into heaven.

In verse 8, the rulers, the teachers of the law, and all of the people who knew everything about the law and the Bible and thought that they were so wise didn't have wisdom from God because they were the ones who wanted Jesus Christ to be crucified. Jesus Christ, our Savior, the Messiah, the only one that can save us, and the only way to get into heaven, these people wanted Him to be crucified and did crucify Him. If they actually did have wisdom from God that would have never happened. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was necessary to forgive us of our sins and whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life in heaven with Him and God the Father. The scripture that is quoted here in verse 9 is from Isaiah 64:4.

What Paul says in verse 10, God has revealed to us by the Holy Spirit the plans that He has for us for eternal life in heaven, that our true home is in heaven with Jesus and God the Father, and that this is just our temporary home. In verses 11-14, the only one that knows the thoughts of God the Father is the Spirit of God, and that Spirit is within us whenever we are saved and ask Jesus to come into our hearts and forgive us of our sins. God gives us that Spirit to show us the truth, counsel us, and guide us through life on this earth. God has freely given us this gift of eternal life we just have to believe that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. We have to believe in Jesus, ask for forgiveness, ask him to come into our hearts, and we have the gift of eternal life and the Holy Spirit within us and the fruit of the Spirit. When we let the Holy Spirit guide us and we portray the fruit of the Spirit to others, we will never be led astray and we will be able to fulfill our mission on this earth. Someone that doesn't have the Holy Spirit is not going to accept the things that we say that are from the Holy Spirit because they just think that it is foolishness and they don't understand it because they don't have discernment from the Holy Spirit.

In verse 15, as believers of Jesus Christ, we can only be judged by God. The judgments of men mean nothing to us because our creator is God the Father, Jesus Christ is our Savior, and our true home is in heaven. This world is just our temporary home and the opinions and judgments of others mean nothing to us because we are chosen by God. Our true treasure and home is in heaven and we have the gift of eternal life in heaven with Jesus and God the Father. The scripture that is quoted here in verse 16 is from Isaiah 40:13.

Here are 3 takeaways to write down:

1. We have to let the Holy Spirit guide us and speak the truth that we hear from the Holy Spirit

2. We can only attain wisdom from God

3. God the Father gives us the Holy Spirit to counsel us and show us the truth
